This map was originally published by Blaeu in 1635 and subsequently reissued with minor changes by a number of publishers. In this manner it became the standard map of southern Africa throughout the 17th century. The Valk and Schenk map is easy to identify because unlike the other versions, their names are very prominently inserted below the southern point of Africa.
