Charles I (1625-1649), AR Halfcrown 1643, Declaration type, Oxford mint, mm: plumes. Charles on horseback left, holding sword and reins; plume to right, rev. Declaration in two lines, RELIG : PROT : LEG/ ANG : LIBER : PAR across field; three plumes above; 1644 below. 14.57gm. (Bull, Oxford 600/C Morrieson, Oxford D-3; Brooker 890; N 2413; S 2954). Extremely Fine or better - with bold detail for this often poorly struck type, attractively toned and rare. Comparable to Cope specimen – and a rounder coin. On the accompanying collectors ticket the mint is attributed to this coin is Combe Martin. However, Hereford is an attested Royalist mint where ‘Rude the Coyner’ is known to have been active in 1644, and to which this issue is now tentatively ascribed. Ex.
