Maynooth”,  Figure standing on a Canal Lock, with cottage on left, and its companion, O.O.B., each approx. 30 x 40cms (12” x 16”), inscribed lower right, in matching gilt and black cushion frame. (2)

Yeates, G.W. (1860-1939), landscape painter. Born in India in 1860, George Wyclief Yeates, the son of Rev. George Yeates, was educated at Dublin University - MB, BCh, 1884. He added LDS in 1885 after attending the Royal College of Surgeons, and became a dental surgeon at the Dental Hospital of Ireland, Dublin.


In 1884, from 18 Lower Mount Street, Dublin, he showed at the at the Royal Hibernian Academy Evening on the Scheldt and A Quiet Nook in Antwerp. In 1886 he was proposed and seconded as a working member of the Dublin Sketching Club with an address at 17 Lower Baggot Street. He married Alma Jane Ussher in 1888. One of the earliest of the formal portraits by Walter F. Osborne (859 - 1902) was that of Mrs. G.W. Yeates, painted in 1891 and now in the National Gallery of Ireland.
