Wendy Ramshaw OBE (1939-2018) for NMEC, a rare prototype Millennium Dome VVIP medal, a prototype VIP Dome medal, a prototype crew Dome medal and packaging, the first a prototype VVIP Dome medal presented in a grey resin case. This resin case rotates to open. It is made of recycled plastics that has been machined. It also acts as a display, as it can stand on it’s side. Wendy Ramshaw ultimately decided that she would not use this design, hence this case is the only one in existance. The medal is made of layers of stainless steel, nanocrystalline diamond-coated steel bisected by a gold ‘meridian line’ rod, made by Ramshaw, 72mm, there are believed to be less than ten VVIP medals in existence, a prototype steel and gilded metal medal, 72mm, a NMEC crew steel prototype with inscriptions, 72mm, spare various prototype packaging, together with printed correspondence from Wendy Ramshaw and one finished NMEC crew medal in cardboard packaging.
Background – Wendy Ramshaw was selected to supply a number of medals following a national competition to choose the medal designers. The winners were selected by a committee of eminent individuals from the design director at the Royal Mint, Director of the RSA, Rector of the Royal College of Art, Brian Neale RA, Leonard Mannasseh OBE, David Mellor of David Mellor Design, and Mark Jones National Museum of Scotland.

Provenance - the archive of the former Design & Development Director for the New Millennium Experience Company, c.1999-2000. He was responsible for commissioning artists, medallists and product designers for Dome merchandise.
An example of the medal with nanocrystalline diamond-coated steel bisected by a gold ‘meridian line’ rod is in the Science Museum.
