the 40in. carved hull painted tan below the waterline, brass portholes, single screw and rudder, scored deck, with brass and silvered fittings, including capstan, anchor winches, companionway, lined deck housing including saloon with light, open bridge, davits with fitted boats, brass ventilators, retractable funnel to live steam spirit-fired engine, and other details, twin masts with yards, standing and running rigging, mounted on four brass columns within glazed wooden case, overall dimensions -- 22 x 50 x 17in. The album of photographs taken during the 1994 restoration includes one of an inscription inside the hull by the bow reading: THIS MODEL WAS MADE BY F. DE. SALES IN DUBLIN, 1902, NATIVE OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUSIANA [sic] USA. Hearsay history suggests the actual vessel was reconstructed from an old clipper hull.
model restored in 1993 by Wicklow Model Arts, Ireland, when it was supplied with a case.
