A MID-LATE 19TH CENTURY COPELAND ‘WEST INDIA REGIMENT’ DINNERSERIVE, (partial). The Copeland mark to the base suggests a date of between 1851 – 1895. The West India Regiment for the majority of the 19th century was based in Trinidad & Jamaica. After taking part in the 2nd Ashanti War (1873-74) in West Africa, they established a base in Sierra Leone. In 1888, the two remaining West India Regiments were merged to create a single regiment. The partial service comprises of: 6 serving dishes (1 with a lid), 3 serving plates (1 small 2 medium), 3 plate lids with handle, 20 dinner plates, 12 salad plates, 12 shallow soup bowls. Condition: Plates and serving dishes are in good condition, there is ware to the gilt in places and a couple of chips to serving plate.
