John Myatt is a British artist convicted of art forgery who perpetrated what has been described as "the biggest art fraud of the 20th century”. In 1995, he was arrested and quickly confessed and was sentenced to one year in prison. After his release Myatt has continued to paint commissioned portraits and clear copies. His paintings are now marked indelibly as fakes.


Provenance: Acquired for Dorothy Claxton by Rev. Chris Moorhouse on 24th October 2013 through Castle Galleries, Bath.
