George Cocking. 'From the Mines to the Pulpit,' 1901. 'Or, Success Hammered Out of the Rock’ first edition, in original green binding with gilt lettering to spine and front cover, bookplates of John Blowey and Redruth United Methodist Free Church Sunday School ‘Prize’ label, a very good copy of a scarce book, printed for the author by Jennings & Pye, Cincinnati, U.S.A, 1901. George Cocking was born in Redruth in 1862 and secured employment in his early years at the Pednandrea Mine. After some 12 years, he decided to leave Cornwall for the gold mines of Colorado, working with other Cornishmen. Eventually becoming a minister for the Methodist Episcopal Church. Whilst this is not an autobiography, it is a true account of his life.
