Thomas Wicksteed......Cornish Pump.....Engines, 1841. Thomas Wicksteed (Engineer to the East London Waterworks). 'An Experimental Inquiry Concerning the Relative Power of and Useful Effect Produced by the Cornish and Boulton and Watt Pumping Engines, and Cylindrical and Waggon-Head Boilers,' first edition, 6 tables, 8 prelim and 34 pages complete, 40 pages of advertisements, original cloth with gilt lettering to the spine and front cover, interestingly with the bookplate of Robert W. Mylne (civil engineer) designer and builder of blackfriars bridge 1733-1811, a presentation copy from the author to William Chadwell Mylne Esq 1781-1863 (civil engineer), probably son of Robert W, additionally with the bookplate of John Blowey, a very good copy, John Weale, London, 1841. Wicksteed, acting on behalf of the institution of civil engineers, investigated the claims of the high pressure Cornish engine and Cornish boiler, against the older Boulton & Watt principle. The success of the Cornish engine resulted in Wicksteed installing it at the East London Waterworks.
