1815 Waterloo Medal to Serj Matthew Colgan 18th Regiment Hussars, with replacement silver ring clip and straight bar suspender, numerous contact marks, good fine. Colgan wrote a narrative about experiences in the Peninsula and at Waterloo where he was a coverer for Captain George Luard who commanded the centre squadron, who charged the centre of the French line. Unusual to find an NCO's written experiences of this great battle, with copy of relevant passage for Waterloo. He left his Waterloo Medal to Sir Noel Harris who mentions Colgan in his memoir titled Brief Memoir of Lt Col Harris, with a bound reproduced copy of book. (See photo) (R)
