1827 Pattern Rifle Regiment officer's sword, ricasso marked Hawksworth/Sheffield, blade ornately etched including KGV cypher, guard includes strung bugle, outside of guard engraved "Presented To Lieut J.C. McClughan By D. Coy 6th Battn East Belfast Regt U.V.F. 21st Nov 1914", slight wear to leather grip, blade slightly bent, with leather scabbard. Recipient identified as John Charles McClughan who served as a Captain with 8th Bn Royal Irish Rifles in WW1. A Captain John Charles McClughan, District Commandant, Ulster Special Constabulary was awarded an MBE in the London Gazette dated 1st January 1949 and likely to be the same person.
