*Samuel Joensen-Mikines (Faroese, 1906-1979) Coastal landscape, Faroe Islands signed and dated S. J. Mikines .37 lower left oil on canvas 63 x 81cm The present canvas, which dates from the decade after Mikines' graduation from the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen, possibly represents the island of Nólsoy, viewed from Hoyvik. Mikines is known to have revisited that view at least one other time, in a canvas shown at the Johannes Larsen Museet as part of the exhibition 'Færøske billeder af Samuel Joensen-Mikines' in 2021. That view was also dated 1937.
