Star Lot : A striking original limited edition (1/25) aquatint etching on paper artwork titled "Isolde" by the Irish artist and printmaker Marie Louise Martin. Features a portrait in profile of the German mythological character Isolde rendered in a contemporary manner with bright patterned head scarf and green striped blouse. Hand-signed and titled in pencil bottom right and housed in a high quality marble effect frame with complementary green pointed arch matting. Artist's information and framer's sticker to verso. Martin's work sells well at auction fetching prices into the high hundreds. This is a large very striking piece. MM: 65 x 88 cm in frame.
Martin was born Dublin in 1960. She studied Fine Art painting and printmaking at NCAD from 1978 to 1983 and received a B.A degree. She joined the Black Church Print Studio in 1983 and worked between there and home studio until 2017, while also serving as board member for many years. Martin established a print studio for the Airfield Educational Trust (1999-2000) and has been represented by the Graphic Studio in 2017. She has completed residencies at Cill Rialaig, Ballinskelligs, Co. Kerry (2005 & 2017) and currently works between Dublin and Radicondoli (Italy) since 2003.
