Depicting seated female figure in traditional dress with letter and books to her right. Inscribed verso reading: ‘J.B. Brennan Cork 1846’. Dimensions: 17cm x 21cm approx. More about the artist: James Butler Brenan RHA was the son of the Cork landscape painter, John Brenan (1796 Tipperary-1865 Cork) (Strickland). He spent his life in Cork, where his work was almost entirely of portraits of local people, of which this is an excellent example.
