Teresa Brayton (1868-1943) Poetess and Patriot. Souvenir of unveiling of memorial by Eamon de Valera at Clonncurry Cemetery, Co. Kildare, Sunday, 18 October 1959. Theresa Brayton (née Boylan) was born near Enfield, Co. Kildare. As a young woman she emigrated to America where she was a prolific contributor of poems to numerous Irish-American newspapers and journals. On the death of her husband she returned to Ireland. Her best known composition is ‘The Old Bog Road’, set to music by Madeleine King O’Farrelly. This is a scarce ephemeral item featuring a number of her better-known poems and containing numerous advertisements both local and national
