Medals (4) of 464 (26717) Serjeant James William Lavour of the Somerset Light Infantry. Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps 'Relief of Ladysmith', 'Orange Free State', 'Tugela Heights', 'Cape Colony', King's South Africa Medal with clasps 'South Africa 1902', 'South Africa 1901', British War Medal 1914-1920, and Allied Victory Medal 1914-1918. Enlisted on 28th April 1896 and joined the 2nd Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry on Guernsey the following month. Served in South Africa from 4th November 1899 until 25th August 1900. Transferred to the Army Reserve on 28th April 1903. Discharged on 27th April 1912. Re-enlisted into 6th Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry on 9th December 1915. Landed in France on 9th December 1916. Admitted to hospital with the effects of gas on 6th June 1917. After his recovery, he transferred to 826th Area Employment Company, which in time transferred to the Labour Corps, and he was renumbered 579590. Demobilised on 7th February 1919.
