RAF Militaria: A rare WWII portable aneroid altimeter calibration pressure chamber by R. W. Munro Ltd, circa 1940. These altimeter pressure calibrator chambers were used during the Second World War by the UK Air Ministry to facilitate the calibration of altimeters incorporated within fighter aircraft such as Spitfires and Hurricanes. The cylindrical brass pressure chamber with a japanned finish to the exterior is designed with a screw clamp end cover with rubber gasket incorporating three raised glass viewing windows to the sides and mounted on cast cradle supports fixed onto a rectangular mahogany base. The base bears a plaque inscribed ‘REF. 6C/63, PORTABLE CALIBRATOR MK 1, FOR ALTIMETER, R. W. MUNRO LTD, SERIAL No. 397/40’. Dimensions: 51 cm total length, 22 cm total height.
