A RARE CORK/IRISH 18TH CENTURY SILVER SUGAR TONGS BY CARDEN TERRY, with STERLING hallmark stamp to the inside along with maker’s initials CT. Decorated with typical Georgian bright-cut decoration to the arms & a lion passant crest to the curve. 14cm long. Weight: 26grams. MORE ABOUT THE MAKER: Carden Terry was born in February of 1742. The son of John Terry & Sarah Carden. In 1758 he was apprenticed, and his first mention in the press was in the Corke Evening Post of February 9th 1764 – advertising business at: ‘The New House within 2 doors of Broad Lane, Corke, at the sign of the Golden Cup’. In 1768 he became a member of the Cork Goldsmiths Company.
