South Africa, 1976 Transkei Independence Medal. Struck in 18ct gold by the South African Historical Mint to proof standard, hallmarked on the edge and weighing 40g. The COA number conforms to the stamp number on the coin (1296). Whilst a limited number of just 2,000 were supposedly struck these medals rarely come up for sale perhaps indicative of a culture of melting such pieces. Some light coppery redness in places otherwise much as struck and complete with case, COA & original outer packaging. Very scarce. 0.965oz AGW.
