An 1803 Royal Naval officer's sword, slender straight, fullered blade 28", etched and blued and gilt for two thirds length with crown, foliate and floral devices on one side, and crowned Royal Arms, stylized foliage and devices on the other, gilt stirrup hilt with crossguard and quillon, langets bearing crowned fouled anchor, pronounced knucklebow into flattened lion's head pommel and backstrap with central feather panel, swollen, wirebound, chequered ivory grip, in its black leather (replaced) scabbard with gilt mounts and 2 rings, the locket with maker's name "Salter, Sword Cutler, etc, to HRH the Duke of Sussex, 35 Strand London". Very Good Condition for age, retaining approx 75% blueing and gilding to blade and 85% gilt to hilt and scabbard mounts (few rust patches to blade) Plate 19
