A collection of First -Class silver plated tableware from the Hamburg Sud Passenger Liner SS 'Cap Norte', comprising tea pot, coffee pot, two water jugs, an oval tray, a rectangular tray, two oval serving dishes, a toast rack, four finger bowls, four side plates, four circular table salts, a mustard drum and a two handled sugar casket, all initialed 'HSDG;' with reeded border.(23) *Notes- Built by Deutsche Werft, Hamburg and launched in 1922, SS 'Cap Norte ' made her maiden voyage to Buenos Aires in November 1938. On the 9th October 1939 she was spotted by HMS 'Belfast' while trying to evade a British blockade when she was captured and taken to Kirwall in Orkney. She was subsequently renamed 'Empire Trooper' and served Britain as a supply ship throughout the rest of the war. The vendor's father served as Chief Officer aboard 'Empire Trooper' before she was sent for breaking up in 1955.
