Fees

3 Albums containing approximately 936 postcards of Littlehampton in West Sussex – a collection rich in social history. Most of the cards are standard-size, but there are a few moderns dotted around the pages to continue themes developed on pages by the late collector. Various publishers, including two of Littlehampton’s finest – J. White and F. Spry. Most of the cards are in good or better condition, but a number have faults such as corner knocks, creasing or minor stains. Album 1 includes beach scenes, The Sands, Promenade, bandstand, The Common, sunken gardens, putting green, donkey rides, the windmill, ornamental lake, comic and marches and processions such as National Baby Week. Album 2 has aerial views, railway interest x 14 including two RPs of a train disaster, the pier, harbour mouth, river and pleasure boat activity. Album 3 has street views including many High Street, but also Norfolk Road, South Terrace, Arundel Road, Lyminster Road, the congregational and parish churches, Surrey Street, Church Street, Canadian Village, and many social history scenes involving church and youth groups etc. Some of the more interesting PCs include an RP of a street lifeboat procession, Gas Co Ltd, the aftermath of a fire at the Electric Palace, Clark and Robinson shopfront (corner missing), the funeral of Canon Neave, whist drive, the opening of the Cottage Hospital and Belgrave House (an auxiliary Red Cross Hospital?) with wounded soldiers.
