Martin Brothers stoneware double face jug, dated 1903, modelled in bas-relief with a smiling face opposing a grimacing face, in a light brown saltglaze with a darker brown glaze to the upper handle and inside neck, the details picked out in black, inscribed '2-1903 Martin Bros. London and Southall' (firing cracks at the neck and additional hair cracks at the underside of the handle), height 16cm
There is a large firing crack to the rim approx. 2cm long. Another can be seen on the inside of the neck but this does not exhibit on the outside. Further small firing crack at the join of the handle, running into the neck, approx. 6mm. Hair fractures can be seen on the underside of the handle. There is a hair crack that can be seen on the outside of the neck adjacent to the large firing crack, of similar length to the firing crack.
