H* Watson (19th century) - a coastal scene at low tide with figures repairing lobster pots beside fishing boats, a village nearby and shipping in the distance, signed, oil on canvas, 30" x 50.25"; contained within an original Victorian elaborately decorated gilt plaster and wooden frame

More Information

In fully restored condition and has been re-lined, cleaned, restored and varnished probably in the 1980s or 1990s when the collection was being formed although quite a number of items were also purchased by the vendor in the 1960s, 70s there do not appear to be any large badly restored areas only minor re-touching here and there, it also has some craquelure in the sky, the large white cloud to the left of the cliff and the further clouds on the far left, these are obviously more thickly painted (impasto) so have cracked a little more than the thinner areas of paint that the artist has applied. The frame is original and has reasonably ornately decorated plater to the outer and inner edges, it is in excellent condition.
