1983 Sidewinder Sidecar

- A very rare part of motor cycle history

In 1983, the government were forced to change the learner laws. At 17 years old, you could ride a 250cc machine, the problem was, by then 250cc bikes were capable of 100mph. The law was changed, learners could only ride up to 125cc motorcycles, until he or she had passed their DSA motorcycle test. Unless they are in charge of a sidecar outfit. A loophole was found.

Enter the Sidewinder sidecar, a mail order ‘clip on‘ sidecar for the cost of £199.95 that a learner could legally bolt onto a 1000cc bike.

The sidecar wheel would collapse as the machine was leaned to the left and raise into the air on a right hand corner.

An extremely rare accessory and deal for classic bike shows.
