John Eddy was born in Kenwyn, Truro, Cornwall, in 1832. He joined the Army in 1853 and went on to serve for over 21 years. He was awarded the Baltic Medal, Crimea Medal with clasp Sebastopol, Turkish Crimea Medal and a Long Service Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged in 1875, and on the 1st of April 1904, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with an annuity of £10.
