AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED from Richard Tyle (?) to Sir William Petty, Loughree, 14th March 1654. 'Sir, There hath been a great mischance, one of our surveyors hath lost his field book and the parish of Oldcastle must be gon over again. What monies I have received hath been disbursed upon chainmen and others employed on the work. There is not a man with me hath any money neither have I'. One side with integral blank, remains of wax seal. Sir William Petty was responsible for the Down survey In Ireland, the first large scale attempt to carry out a scientific survey.
