1899 QSA 4 clasps Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, South Africa 1901 engraved to 22841 Sapr A. Bates R.E. unofficial rivets for top clasp, edge bruise by rank, otherwise good very fine. With 5 copied pages of service record and roll, Alfred Bates was born in Lewes, attested 12/5/88 aged 19, served Gibraltar and Malta, to AR 29/7/95, recalled 17/12/99, served in South Africa with 38th Fd Coy to 23/4/01, discharged 17/5/01, papers confirm all clasps.
