A selection of 19th century fans to include a telescopic example, the monture of wood painted gold, the leaf of black silk embroidered with a large spray of gold sequins, the verso being plain; a second telescopic fan, made of polished wood and mounted with a beige glazed cotton leaf, both sides plain; a small white gauze fan, the leaf painted with the motto of the British monarch, Dieu et mon droit, roses, thistles, and clover, and initials ERM and the date of 1911, the year of the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary, the monture of wood painted in gold, contained in a box with label for “Dickens & Jones Ltd, Fan specialists, Regent Street. W, guard approx. 17.5cm; and two Olive wood cockade fans, 1890-1900, produced in Sorrento, both with mirrors in one side (5)
The first fan has a repair on the upper guard and a break with loss to one gorge stick. It is currently stuck in the extended position. Slight wear from use on the leaf of the second fan, but the fan is sound. Fan 3 is in good order. The lighter of the two Sorrento fans has a crack in the mirror.
