(ii) AFTER JOHN RANKINE BARCLAY (1884-1962), INTERIOR SCOTTISH CATHEDRAL, possibly depicting figures attending the lying in state of Field Marshall Douglas Haig at St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh. Signed in pencil lower left. Framed: 53.5 x 32cm, Plate: 30nx 14cm.
More About the Artist: John Rankine Barclay (1884-1962). Painter and etcher, born in Edinburgh, who studied at the Royal Scottish Academy Schools in 1908, winning the Guthrie award circa 1911 & the Carnegie Travelling Scholarship in 1922. The artist showed at RSA Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and elsewhere. Barclay was a member of the Edinburgh Group formed just before World War II. Barclay went on to paint in an often experimental style and lived for over 30 years in St Ives, Cornwall.
