Two Billy and Charleys - one being in the form of a leaden Medieval King, 15cm high, the other an Egyptian figure, 11.5cm high, also a Ushabti and an antique leather key tag (4). *Notes - William Smith (Billy) and Charles Eaton (Charley) were mudlarks who searched the River Thames for items of value. They subsequently decided to counterfeit antiquities, causing controversy in Victorian society when a large number of supposedly Medieval objects appeared for sale. Provenance: The Christopher Hawkings Collection of Curiosities.
