The Mk 2 Jaguar was introduced in 1959. It came with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8 litre XK engine. The car was re-engineered above the waistline, slender front pillars allowed a wider windscreen and the rear window almost wrapped around to the enlarged side windows. The radiator grille was larger, side, tail and fog lamps repositioned. Inside a new heating system was fitted. There was an improved instrument layout that became standard for all Jaguar cars until the XJ Series II. From its introduction the Jaguar MkII developed a strong following in many walks of life. With wonderful styling and a race-bred engine and four-wheel disc brakes, the ability to carry five passengers at great speed, the car proved to be a great success.

The vendor has owned this car since 2004 and has driven the car about 20,000 miles in 16 years. It is thought that it was first exported to South Africa and then brought back and registered in the UK in 1989. The car is fitted with a new power steering system by Vicarage, a new braking system with Cooper Craft light-weight calipers, and new slightly lowered suspension with new shock absorbers. The engine has been reconditioned by VSE, there is a new clutch, starter motor cooling radiator and an extra fan. An alternator and a stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted, a new heated rear window, an uprated windscreen wiper system, and 2 new front tyres on the chrome wire wheels.

There are some minor rust spots in the left corner of the windscreen and at the bottom of the front doors. The exterior chrome seems all to be original, the interior is said to be very good, and retains the Ambla seats and trim of South African cars. All repairs were carried out by Ladd and Glen, the Jaguar specialist in Streatham.

This is said to be a very reliable car that the vendor has driven long distances, it is generally in better than good condition, and has a very sensible Reserve.

The car is currently on French registration plates. When it was imported into the UK in 1989, all tax and duties were paid, there are no further duties to pay. To obtain UK registration a Nova document will need to be lodged with HMRC, which Barons can assist with.
