After William Blake Richmond (1842 - 1921), Heliograph portrait by Frederick John Jenkins (1872 - 1929), Society beauty Muriel Thetis Wilson (1875 - 1964) who was romantically linked to Winston Churchill who proposed to her in 1904. Facsimile signature in the plate by Muriel Wilson, 11'' x 8 ½''. [The correspondence between Winston Churchill and Muriel Wilson was sold at auction by Christies in 1994. The family seat of the Wilsons, Tranby Croft in Yorkshire, was made famous by a baccarat scandal whilst the then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) was staying there as a guest in September 1890. The original portrait of Muriel Wilson by Richmond, painted in 1875, is held in Hull's Guildhall and this heliograph/photogravure by Jenkins is one of a series of portraits made by him for the National Portrait Gallery] Please Note - we do not make reference to the condition of lots within catalogue descriptions. We are however happy to provide additional information regarding the condition of items on request.
