Scottish. 5th (Musselburgh) Midlothian Rifle Volunteers shako plate circa 1861-75. Good rare die-stamped blackened brass crowned IN DEFENCE circular strap superimposed on Saint Andrew's cross; to the solid centre, a thistle flower on the centre of the cross, the leaves go under the arms of the cross. Loops. VGC Formed 19th April, 1861 at Musselburgh. Following consolidation in 1880, became ‘G’ Company 2nd Midlothian RVC. Redesignated 6th VB Royal Scots in April, 1888.
