1914 Stampless cover to Ireland endorsed "On Active Service, 13/306 Trooper J. Cleland, 4th Waikato Mounted Rifles, N.Z Expeditionary Force" with blue oval "N.Z MILITARY POST OFFICE / TROOPSHIP No. 8 / OCT 22 1914 / EXPEDITIONARY FORCE", a Hobart c.d.s and "10 / CTMS / T" in red, posted on the "Star of India", with a postcard of the ship. Also a stampless Ceylon postcard with similar oval handstamp of Troopship No. 12 in violet, dated NOV 23 1914, used on the "Waimena". The only two troopships to use this oval type datestamp, the first very unusual. (3). Photo on Page 106.
