A Safavid Copper Kashkul Beggar's Bowl, Persia, 17th Century.
A rounded copper kashkul, or beggar’s bowl, from the Safavid period, inlaid with a complex interlaced arabesque and geometric pattern. The bulbous form flares out at the rim and features alternating bands of kufic-style script and vegetal scrollwork. The body is decorated with a distinctive register of star-shaped medallions and nested crosses filled with floral motifs. The interior is plain, while the rim is finished with a finely incised foliate border.
