A COLLECTION OF THREE PAIRS 'IN MEMORY OF DAD BERT AND TED' CASUALTIES TO THE WILLIAMS FAMILY. A Mercantile Marine pair named to William Williams. A pair named to 195436 A Cpl E.T. Williams 2-Can Inf. A pair to 195435 A.L Sjt B. Williams 19-Can Inf. Also a Canadian Memorial Cross named to 195435 A-L Sgt B. Williams, a gold cross engraved 'In Memory of Dad, Bert and Ted'. and a pendant with photographs of the two sons in military uniform. William John Williams was born c.1855. He served in the Mercantile Marine, he lived in Sholing, Southampton with his wife Sarah. Working in the Engine Room aboard H.M.H.S. Gloucester Castle he died on the 31st March 1917 when the ship was steaming near the Isle of Wight and was torpedoed by submarine UB32. He was one of three men to loose their lives in this incident. Bert Williams was born on the 7th March 1890. He attested for the Canadian expeditionary Force in 1915. He was wounded in action and died of his wounds at No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station on the 4th November 1917, he is buried at Lijssenthoek Cemetery, he was 27 years old. Edward Thomas Williams was born on the 30th March 1896, he also attested for the Canadian Expeditionary Force and Wounded in action and reported as missing he was presumed dead on the 4th May 1917. He is commemorated on the Vimy Ridge memorial. The gold pendant cross is poignantly engraved In memory of Dad, Bert and Ted. Mounted for display with copied research.
