C.1879 Surface printed proof from line engraved die. A negative impression in black from a pitted plate in sunken paper (40mm x 63mm). Based on Heath's head for the 1840 one penny although slightly smaller. Origin, date & purpose unknown sold “as is”. Unusual. A similar example sold in Fisher 1983.
