Comwyns Carr’, George Saintsbury preface, new green endpapers, original publisher’s blue pictorial cloth lettered with elaborate blocked gilt decoration to upper board and spine after a design by Hugh Thomson, gilt edges, printed at the Chiswick Press-Charles Wittingham and Co., Tooks Court, Chancery Lane, London, 8vo (13.5 x 19cm) This copy was printed in March 1895, five months after the first Peacock edition printed in October 1894. Thomson’s was the first edition of Jane Austen’s novel to contain illustrations throughout, with previous editions, such as the Bentley 1833 edition only containing a frontispiece. Boards cocked with rubbing and wear, corners rubbed and bumped, gilt edges bright, light foxing to half-title and preliminaries, otherwise internally a clean bright copy.
