First World War - Edward (Ned) Hincks [1897-1917], from Southam - First World War star trio and documents to G-11127 PTE Edward (Ned) Warner Hincks, son of Marlow and Margaret Hincks of Broadwell Rugby, killed in action (12 April 1917) age 20 years old. “Ned was in a Coy & went over the Top with the 3rd wave on April 9th & was hit after he left our lines. He got in pretty badly poor boy” (Sergt Alexander Browne in letter, included). Medals include Victory medal to G-11127 PTE E.W.HINCKS MIDDSX R, British War Medal to G. 11127 PTE. E. W. HINCKS and 1914-15 star engraved to reverse G-11127 PTE. E. W. HINCKS MIDDX. R. with transmit papers for each. Also with small black handwritten notebook, shaving brush with handmade (trenchart style) handle and Egypt cap badge. Also, alongside the medals is a large quantity of paperwork & letters relating to Warner, including Official report of Wounding (26.4.17), Report of Death (3.5.17), War Office report of burying, Church of England Temperance Society Total Abstinence Declaration signed by Edward Hinck, three typed and two handwritten letters from No68 Sergt Alexander Browne regarding Warner’s death, Christmas card sent to “all at home” from Ned, four handwritten letters to his sister Maisie, handwritten letter to his brother Jack, handwritten letter to his Mother, Postcard to ‘M’ from Ned, various other pieces of correspondence and letters, postcards (x10) including images of two women, ‘Church Fields and Waterblame works Rochester’, a baby, Silks (x2) & of Ned (x3, two the same). A small family photo and a pen and black ink drawing by and signed by Edward Hinks dated Aug 1909. With copied MIC, Grave Registration, Headstone & Concentration. Buried/Commemorated at Feuchy Chapel British Cemetry, Wancourt I.C2, France. Superbly interesting lot with vast social history. Viewing highly recommended.
