1845 Warwickshire Yeomanry prize sword, 1821 Pattern officer's light cavalry sword and scabbard, blade 75% ornately etched including trophy of arms, crown/VR cypher and Samuel Walker within scroll, other side range of farm implements, Prize Sword 2nd Troop Warwickshire Yeomanry Cavy Given by Bolton King Major 1845 in 4 lines, mounted Yeomanry soldier and trophy of arms, ricasso marked in box Repaired by/Robt Mole & Sons/Birmingham, fishskin and wire grip with some wear, scabbard with heavy dent towards bottom.
The Coventry Herald dated 1st August 1845 reported:
"The members of the second troop of the Warwickshire Yeomanry Cavalry celebrated their 51st Anniversary at Vauxhall, on Thursday last, on which occasion two prize Swords were contended for by members of the Corps. The competitors were Messrs Wilton, Walker, Wilkes, Appleby, Latham and Riley; and the first prize was awarded by Adjutant Field to Mr S. Walker Jun, of the Minories; and the second prize to Mr Wilton of Broad Street. The members of the Troop afterwards dined together at the Vauxhall Tavern, Major Bolton King in the chair, supported by Captain Field and Lieutenants Mason and Galton." BUYER MUST COLLECT.
