According to a label verso believed to have been exhibited at the Royal Academy, London 1799 no. 516.
George Samuel exhibited landscape watercolours at the RA from 1786-1823. His scene of the River Thames near York buildings, exhibited in 1789 was particularly well received. By the late 1790's Samuel was a member of Girtin and Francia's Sketching Society. He was also an early practitioner of lithography. In the 1790's George Samuel exhibited a number of Monmouthshire landscapes at the RA including Llanthony Abbey, Monmouthshire (1793); Pontipool Bridge, Monmouthshire (1794) and Skinfrith on the Monore, Monmouthshire (1799)
