Edward Bosanketh. 'Tin. A Novel'. Second edition (the first edition being published in 1888 by T. Fisher Unwin, London), near fine condition, published by Justin Brooke, Marazion, 1988. Edward Bosanketh’s novel was published in 1888, with his characters being inspired by well-known local Cornish townspeople (albeit thinly disguised). The story exposed the real life shady dealings of the local bank. The bankers accused, were so incensed by the allegations that they attempted to buy and destroy all copies of the book. They burned as many copies as they could find but, fortunately a few survived. Justin Brooke privately published this edition where he states ‘’Although described as a novel ‘’Tin’’ was all about real people in mining and banking, whom the Cornish people and readers in the mining industry, could easily recognise.
