In 1957 the TR3 was updated with various changes including a full width radiator grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle, and came with a full tool kit as standard. This facelifted model was commonly referred to as the Triumph TR3A. However, the cars were not badged as such, and the TR3A name was not used officially. The TR3A was built between 1957 and 1962.

A 1958 Triumph TR3A overdrive, which was exported to the USA, and, according to the US Title Deed, seems to have spent most of its life in Tucson, Arizona. The car was back in the UK in 1990 and was purchased by the vendor's father in 1992. At this stage the car was in good structural condition, but looking a little used, and the vendor's father, an ex-Vauxhall Competition Department mechanic decided to give the car a full re-build. This was done very sympathetically, and used as many of the original parts as possible, and it seems from the supplied photographic record of the re-build, that all the body panels are the original ones. It was decided at this time to convert the car to right hand drive. The car was ready for the road and registered with the DVLA in 1995.

Since then it has been kept in a heated garage, used for summer runs, and taken to car shows, where it won a number of trophies for its outstanding condition. Although the car was restored in the 90's, it is still in excellent condition, but now it has that patina which makes it look and feel like an original car. The car runs and drives very well, but would benefit from a service and a change of fluids as it has not been used for some time due to ill-health. It comes with a build certificate from The Standard Register, the original steel wheels, a good selection of spares, and some trophies the car won at car shows. The car has now been checked for the road and was MoTd on 19th October. While being driven to the MoT we tested the overdrive and it worked perfectly and the car drove very well. We have added some extra pictures of underside of the car whilst on the MoT ramp.
