HMS Association, wrecked on the Outer Gilstone on the Isles of Scilly, 22 October 1707 A hand made lead container, approx 19cm diameter, 2.8kg Measuring 17.5cm diameter and 7.5cms depth, weight 4kg. the function of this ‘pot’ is unknown, but was probably domestic, and certainly handmade. The loss of the Association was the 2nd worst accident in the long history of the Royal Navy, with at least 1,450 officers and men drowned, when the fleet of 21 ships blundered into the infamous Western Rocks, close to the Bishop. The wrecks of the Association, Eagle, and Firebrand were relocated from 1967 onward by a team of Royal Navy divers.
