£725
1815 Waterloo Medal disc within swivel brooch mount to Serj John Chain 1st Batt 71st Reg Foot, some rubbing to edge from being turned within the mount, loop and safety chain fitted above head on obverse, about very fine.
With 2 pages of service record, he was born in Tingwell, Inverness, enlisted in Northlowland Fencibles 9/10/1793 at Lerwick and served with them until he attested for 71st 18/7/1800 aged 21. His papers record "extremely good, zealous, trustworthy and brave. Severely wounded in the left arm at Vimiera 21st August 1808, slight in the left arm near Pamplona 30th July 1813. Twice in the left arm, one severe and one slight at Waterloo 18th June 1915."
he was discharged as a CSgt in consequence of being worn out in the service 16/7/25. The 71st Foot suffered the second highest number of casualties at Vimiera with 112. There is no trace of him claiming an MGSM, so probably died before 1847. (See photo) (R)
