An attractive silver shooting award of the Chancellor's Challenge Plate. In cross form, obverse: applied shields with the crests of Oxford and Cambridge Universities; reverse engraved with title, date 1866 and hallmark for London 1866. Maker's stamp of "Lambert, 12 Coventry St", 65mm x 65mm EF. Note: The Chancellor's Challenge Plate was contested by Oxford and Cambridge for shooting. The "plate" was donated by the 7th Duke of Devonshire and 14th Earl of Derby in 1862. The competition between 2 teams of 12, each taking 10 shots, over a distance of 300, 500 and 600 yards.
