A late-19th century Chinese export carved mother-of-pearl brooch and necklace set; the brooch features an oval mother-of-pearl panel, intricately carved with six characters playing Go on a bucolic background, within a surround with twisted rope details, brooch fittings to verso, 5.0 cm wide; together with a matching négligée necklace converted from a pair of drop earrings, with two carved oval panels in similar surround, suspending from filigree flower surmounts and a later-added cable link chain; both items marked with a maker's mark 'DeAo' and retailer's mark 'LC' for LeeChing 利升 (Canton), yellow metal testing high carat, in original wooden box; brooch weighs 21.8 grams, necklace 13.4 grams.
