ABOUT ARTIST
Tlou Nandi Mabotja is a self-taught, emerging visual artist who was born in Polokwane, 1996 and is currently based in Centurion. She has a background in finance and accounting and currently works as Junior Tax Accountant. She started drawing and paint in August 2018 as a means of therapy, communication and self-expression. It was through this that she developed a love for art and decided that she would like to pursue a career in this field.
Tlou’s work mainly focuses on black portraiture and realistic representation of facial expressions using scribble art. She aims to take the harshness, messiness and chaos of her scribbles and use them to convey detailed portraits and strong emotions. The biggest inspiration behind her work is black people and the representation of black women and their feminine resistance, their boldness and their beauty. The main mediums used in her artworks are ink, markers and as well as acrylic paints.
