BELGIUM - 78th REGIMENT LETTERS (INC. MARGATE/SHIP LETTER) SENT JUST BEFORE/AFTER WATERLOO; 10 Nov. 1814 and 18 May/7 Sept. 1815 ELs from the 78th Highland Regiment quartermaster at Ostend/Nieuport; the first with fine scarce boxed step-type "MARGATE/SHIP LETTER" on the front, and the others (sent just before and just after the 18 June Battle of Waterloo) both complaining of poor quality or over-priced tartan supplies! All with v. fine large London boxed "addl/½" marks. Presumably the few men of the 78th known to have been at the Battle of Waterloo wore some of Wilson & Co.'s tartan, as did the several complete Highland Regiments who were more active in the battle.
